Leveraging 3D Printing to Streamline Precision Optical Manufacturing

Ian Ferralli, Thomas Hordin, Matthew Brunelle

What's it about?

Optimax uses a variety of different 3D printers in our manufacturing process that streamline many aspects of the process. Measurement fixtures, machine repair and slurry containment are areas where 3D printing helps streamline manufacturing.

1. 3D PRINTING IMPACTS

3D printing has enabled production improvements across many different departments. Even plant maintenance has seen a benefit from using some 3D printing components in their work. With the quick turn around of a 3D printed component, a machine could be repaired same day saving valuable production time. Older machines may not have parts available for purchase or the manufacturer may no longer support that machine. In this case, we can often replicate a component or quickly and cheaply design a retrofit leveraging the flexibility of 3D printing...
